Happy Endings Are Good

By Galen, September 16, 2009 4:55 AM

Okay, so this post has nothing to do with writing…some might suggest that’s true for all my posts, but, nonetheless, I am undeterred. I will allow no rain to fall on my parade.  There’s good news, and I’d like to share it.

sold

My house near Seattle finally did sell.

So, no more vacant-house bills for:

  • lawn care
  • staging
  • insurance
  • electricity
  • gas
  • water
  • home owner’s dues
  • property taxes
  • and handy man service for various things I’m not there to do.

I’m sure there are more money drains, but can’t think of them just now.  However, the costs associated with these items are now vanished.  Gone.  Outta here.  How good does that feel??  Pretty darn good.

Realizing a successful sell wasn’t:

  • simple– (Three buyers, two of whom “fell through”.)
  • easy– (Problem with the title transfer/insurance caused by bank closures and “lost” records.)
  • quick– (Nearly a year from start to finish.) or,
  • cheap– (Didn’t get our original asking price, but we got enough to make us happy.)

So, that stressful nightmare is over.

Writing tie-in???   Uh, always try to have a happy ending.

And so it was, that Galen and Donna sold their albatross, money-suck house and lived happily ever after.

The End.

Congrats on your happy ending, Galen!

And I’m guessing there won’t be a sequel, any time soon.

  3. Congratulations! I’m so glad your long, personal nightmare is finally over. You’ve got to be incredibly relieved…

So happy for you and Donna. Now you can relax and enjoy New Mexico even more. By the way, I am totally immersed in “Hearts of the Morning Calm” and awestruck at the world you’ve created. Your writing is truly exquisite, Galen.

    Thanks, Jane.

    Ha. Let’s hope not, Alan.

Yep, relieved is a good way to put it, Elizabeth. You readers probably are, too. No more whining about the Seattle house.

Gee, Karen, I’m blushing. I am, however, always pleased when someone likes my book. I’m gonna have to hire you as my publicist. :>)

And to no one in particular….I had 131 spam comments last night. All caught by my anti spam program. 131, man, who has time to do that, or think that spam might be remotely effective??? Like junk mail, I toss it without reading. Oh, well. Kinda fun.

  6. So glad to read that the house is sold – what a relief! Nice to have one thing less draining the ol’ bank accounts. Now you can concentrate on what matters – your new life in New Mexico and thinking of special presents for me!!

  7. Happy Happy Happy for you both!! Didn’t realize you lived near Seattle. We are headed to Bothel in two weeks to spend a few weeks there. I could have given you a deal on a Florida home and you could have swapped me for yours:))

  8. Galen says:

Elspeth, you are a mind reader. As it happens, I WAS thinking of new presents for you. Jack said you wanted a new typewriter so you could give him your old one. Expect that in the mail shortly.

Oh, yes, have a very dear friend that lives in Bothel, Terri. We lived in or near Seattle for twenty-plus years. The weather finally drove us both nuts and to warmer, sunnier places. So far, New Mexico has been great. A little more windy than I thought, but, great much less depressing that dreary Seattle.

  9. Natasha says:

    Congratulations!!!!
I love happy endings. Specially when they happen to nice people.

  10. Woohoo! That’s awesome news about your house, Galen. If it were me, I’d go out and do the Happy Leprechaun Dance.

  11. Glad you got that burden lifted off your shoulders. Yeah, I love happy endings too.

  12. I relate. Our house has been on the market for four months. We have moved, so our son is staying there. We still have to maintain and the expenses do mount up. I am happy for you and hopefully some of your luck will rub off on us!
