SuperNoteCards—Organize and “See” Your WIP

Apparently, I feel safe writing about software.  I shoulda called this Software Week.  I didn’t plan it this way.  That said, got another package for you.  This time, though, it costs…$29 bucks.  So, all budget conscious folks are released to surf on.  Sorry, not all good software is free.

The software de jour is Minodola’s, SuperNotes.  It’s sorta like story boarding software.  More accurately, I guess, it’s note card software.screen_deck

The Minodola web site says…

SuperNotecard is an intuitive tool that uses notecards to capture and organize your ideas. These virtual notecards can be moved into decks, arranged on the screen, or grouped and categorized with ease.

Novelists use it to experiment with storylines and to circle back, bear down and perfect their prose and characters—all with notecards that don’t run out of room or fade with age.

The program lets writers create relationships between cards and details. The relationships can be monitored from several angles.

With a few clicks review or print all cards that reference a particular source. From the deck display, instantly see where your main character is introduced.

Researchers (KINDLEY SAYS:  That’s writers, too) use SuperNotecard to gather facts, manage sources and finally stitch it all together in a way that is significantly more visual and capable than a traditional outlining tool.

If you’re still here, but still broke–or skeptical–there’s a free trial download for windows at this link. There’s also a Mac version.  The trial limits the number of cards and the save function, but, those limitations not withstanding, you can take the full program for a free test drive.  I’ve got it on my desktop and am just now learning it’s ends and outs.  My initial reaction is, it seems like a worthwhile investment…especially if you have organizational problems, or, if you—like me– just love the feeling of being organized.

The Minodola folks sponsor a user’s forum, produce a 1.5MB PDF instructional booklet, and have extensive, self-paced, help screens to get you up to speed.

Okay, go forth and organize.

  1. I’d pay big bucks simply to experience the thrill of feeling organized just once in my life! At only $29.95 maybe this is the software for me.

  2. The Husband loves this kind of stuff. Me, I’m naturally organized. Ha! I like paper notes, they’re my friend. Post Its will never go out of business with me on the planet.

  3. I’ve never tried any kind of writer’s software except good ol’ Word. Like Elizabeth, I think I’m more a note person. With colors.

I keep all my notes organized through Word too – my character sheets and notes of the story progression. This looks really cool though – I may have to check it out. You find the coolest software :)

I normally just write chronologically, so I don’t think I need this software. But you seem to be addicted to softwares, hehe.

I’d be curious to hear your thoughts after you’ve used it a bit more. I’ve tried it once or twice (the free trial) but haven’t been able to devote the time to get comfortable with it. I use the notecard feature in Scrivener for plotting, but have thought to use SNC for the storyboarding aspect. Good luck with your experience with this!
