YOU can help!
Praise God–or the deity of your choice; editing for, Hearts of the Morning Calm, is finished!
In the interest of internet discretion, I’ll just say I’m pleased we’re done.
In the end, it turned out mostly okay. To quote Forrest Gump, “That’s all I have to say about that.”
I believe the book is scheduled for release about mid-March. I’ll probably have copies…well, not sure when. Nor, with the cover issue unresolved, am I sure what it will look like.![]()
Anyway, here’s the point of today’s post. No matter when I get it, nor what it looks like, I’m gonna have a period where I give a bunch of copies away to blog visitors—as in free. Hey, you folks who have found your way here for nearly a year, only to graciously battle through drivel, deserve something. Not sure reading an entire book authored by me is a reward, as opposed to … a toaster, let’s say … but, it’s probably better than smallpox. How long will this wonderment last?? Not sure; we’ll have to see.
How will this work?
My concept is to ask for visitors to perform some simple task. Maybe just leave a comment and I pull a winner out of a hat, maybe write a rhyming couplet, maybe the biggest lie of the day? Dunno what it will be, but it won’t be tough, and it will be different for each day I post, MWF—or, I’m open to posting more frequently during this period. The winner gets a free book–if they want it.
Is there a catch?
Only one—I’m respectfully asking that the winner post a sentence on their blog mentioning they won, and link that sentence here so others who want a copy have a chance to win. That’s it. It truly will be a giveaway. No selling allowed.
How can you help?
- Please suggest some visitor tricks. That is, what should a winner have to do to…well…win? Don’t want to make it too tough, or no one will participate. I know you guys and gals, my lovely visitors, (all five of you) are very creative, so, please enter in the comments section your thoughts on what the tricks should be? Leave more than one trick if you like. Remember, I need a bunch of them because this is more than just a one day thing. AND…
- Once this giveaway starts, help me spread the word through any media you like, blog, Twitter, and FaceBook are the ones that come to mind, but everyone is better at networking than me, so, whatever you think is the most effective venue. Remember, it’s a giveaway, you’re not luring people here to spend money.
Okay, that’s it. Thanks for helping. Hope to see you again on Wednesday. Best, Galen.

Top commentors for last month maybe? J. Kaye used to give out books in that manner.
Otherwise mind’s not too tricky this morning – sorry!
CONGRATS, Galen! I bet it feels great to have it finished!
As for tricks, I always think a limerick competition is fun.
Oh, I know you’re so GLAD that’s over!
Um….I’m not so good at tricks. I think I was supposed to do that kind of thing with my last release? Somehow I kept putting it off. But I’ve seen some really cool ones out there…and Mystery Lovers’ Kitchen has done a ton of them. Usually we do the “have to be a follower, have to send a tweet, have to comment” kind of a thing, then do a random pick.

Mystery Writing is Murder
Galen, first, CONGRATULATIONS on finishing editing and your pending book release! Well done, and aren’t you glad all that hard work is over? Once it’s released you NEVER have to edit that same book again, and coming from the back side of edit #7, I can say I would LOVE to be in your shoes…
I am going to suggest a Limerick. It is March, after all, and Limericks and rowdy Irish go together… (besides, I LOVE writing limericks…)
Maybe a caption contest? Damn, hope it’s not the limerick thing – I suck at those!
Congratulations and hope the cover art rocks.
I know it’s got to feel good to have the editing done. Way to go! Like Elizabeth, I’m not very good at tricks or thinking up creative contests. I can’t offer much help because I only did random draws when I gave books away.
I have a wonderful solution. Give the first copy to me. After that, hold all the contests you want. I get points for honesty.
I love any sort of word contest – you could check out Sacred Dirt – where a writers’ olympics was held. I got several medals, she said modestly. I like limericks too and they do suit March, as do well thought out toasts – very Irish and so forth. Or a haiku with the theme of hearts, morning or calmness. Or how many other words can you make out of the title words? Or signs of spring – new books coming out – springing forth. Mine are that I just looked out my window and the chickens are industriously going at the garden- they are SO happy.
Cool! Congrats, dude … man I’ve been following your looooooong journey for a looooong time now, lol. Must feel great. Erm, well–if I won, I’d do a feature post on my blog, along with a review of the book and buy links, requests for my readers to FB and Tweet about it, that sort of thing. Not terribly imaginitive, but right off the top of my head …
The Old Silly
I’m not very tricky. The easier you make it, the more will enter. That’s my only suggestions. Unless you offer free beer. . . .
Congratulations on finishing your book. Can’t think of any tricks, but I’ll be more than glad to put an announcement on my blog once you decide how you’re doing the giveaway.
Congrats on your book. I have (like so many others, I’m sure) been anxiously awaiting this day. Please don’t do the limericks though. That would be pure torture for somebody like me. I’d still try though, because I really want a copy. If I don’t win though, I’ll be buying it anyway. As for my idea, how about a flash fiction or story prompt based on a picture? Of course, that means work for you, but hey – you asked for it!
Congratulations on your book!
I like the writer’s olympics idea.
