As I continue to careen unchecked into the weirder and weirder, I believe this post will represent a new low and alienate the few readers I have left.

“Credit:” Stolen from KOMO TV news in Seattle—even I couldn’t make this up.  Why couldn’t I have found this on Ground Hog day???

PUNXSUTAWNEY, Pa. (AP) – Police say they charged a Pennsylvania man with public drunkenness after he was seen trying to resuscitate a long-dead opossum along a highway.

State police Trooper Jamie Levier says several witnesses saw 55-year-old Donald Wolfe, of Brookville, near the animal Thursday along Route 36 in Oliver Township, about 65 miles northeast of Pittsburgh.

The trooper says one person saw Wolfe kneeling before the animal and gesturing as though he were conducting a séance. He says another saw Wolfe attempting to give mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.

Levier says the animal already had been dead a while.

The Associated Press could not locate a home telephone number for Wolfe.

Well, what do you think, a new bottom…no, not for Mr. Wolfe, for me??

  1. I think it’s one of those stories that an editor would have you strike from a manuscript as too unbelievable if you tried to work it into a fiction piece!

  2. I’m at a loss for words. Not at you re-telling the story. At the idea of a drunken man trying to…ewwww. The imagery that conjures up is just too vivid. What a great opener for a book though, huh? :)

  3. Hart says:

well you know, possums DO play dead… I’m with Jane though… stranger than fiction…

And Galen, I don’t know if you saw my open invitation, but if, with your book release, you decide to do a blog tour, I’d be HAPPY to host you so you could tell my tartish readers about your book (they’re real nice) Just give a shout if that appeals to you at all. Just a post with a brief bio, a few paragraphs to entice readers about your story, and maybe a bit about finding your publisher…

  4. I have no words. But I do have a really nice visual – so thanks for that, Galen.

  5. AlexJ says:

I saw that, too! Life is really stranger than fiction.

Galen, after reading Hart’s comment, I’d like to host a guest post from you sooner than that! I don’t have a million followers – close to 50 now – but let me know if you’re interested.

  6. I’m all for saving animals, but that is disgusting!

  7. Alan Orloff says:

    Dear Sir,
I would like to cancel my subscription to this blog. Please donate the unused portion of my subscription fee to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Possums.

    Thanks you.

  8. I hope he brushed his teeth. I’m just saying.

  9. Yuck! What was this guy thinking (or drinking)?

  10. Eeeewwww…. It’s almost, kinda, sort of funny in that uncomfortable laugh because you don’t know what else to do kind of way. Not your post, the article.
