This is at Fort Wolters, Probably May of '69. I'm "fixing" the helicopter...or so the caption on the back says.

In Vietnam, by the table we used for everything...sun bathing, drinking, eating, reading, card playing, checkers, chess, BSing, cleaning weapons, star gazing, dreaming about home, you name it. summer, 1970

As a new Aircraft Commander, Spartan 20...I was so proud. That's "my" aircraft I'm leaning against. Flew it everyday. Serial number? Sure, I remember that, easy: 66-16821. I happened across it by accident about eight years after this photo. It was an Army Medivac aircraft in Seoul, Korea. I almost cried--seriously. Thought it had been dumped in the South China sea. Dunno where it is now, but hope it's resting comfortably. Got me home safely many times.

With Randy Score, my Crew Chief. 821 was actually his aircraft. He let me fly it. We flew together everyday. Randy died just a couple of years ago from heart failure. Look at him there, would ya have ever guessed? Randy's son, at least one, and I think both, are by the way...Army Aviators.
